Last year, the Newark Teachers Union recognized 14 members who were nominated by their peers to be recognized for their service for the students and community of Newark.  

Who are these members?  They’re the ones who when you’re putting up a bulletin board stop and help you cutting into their own lunch period. They’re the ones who ask staff centric questions at staff meetings and get away with it because they’re knowledgeable and respected by colleagues and administration alike.

1)    Contract Update – As we reported yesterday, the NTU Negotiation team has reached a tentative agreement with NPS.  The final details are still being worked out, including salary guides and getting a signed agreement ready for the NTU Executive Board to review.  Our goals were to negotiate terms that respected and values the work and worth of teachers, aides, clerks and all education workers, while maintaining our job protections and assuring better or equal benefits.  I believe these goals have been achieved and cannot thank our Negotiations Team enough for their hard work and

A new paper by EPI Research Associate Jeffrey Keefe finds that New Jersey’s public teachers are undercompensated, relative to similar workers in New Jersey...
