Faculty Lounge Contest (President Abeigon’s Report)
A few weeks ago, we talked about the importance of Faculty Lounges. As I have been visiting schools the last few weeks, I have seen some Faculty Lounges in some dire straits.
The NTU is putting our money where our mouth is. We are offering $2000 in prizes for schools where “Our faculty lounge can use some help!” Grab some ideas here and let us know why yours needs a makeover.

Class Size Survey
Already this year, we have gotten dozens of calls and emails from staff in overcrowded classrooms. The state guidelines are available here.
We are asking staff in classrooms beyond these limits to use the following Google Form to report this information. We understand the frustration of having to do this year after year, and not seeing the much needed reforms we need to prevent this. But it’s important to have this data so we can work with the district and state in identifying these problems and rectifying them. It also helps protect our members in these situations from negative evaluations when they are in classes that violate state code.

After School overpayment
We received word yesterday that a lot of staff received additional hours of payment in the Extended Period program on the September 30, 2022, and the district will be recouping this money from the October 14 check. We did reach out to NBOE to see if they could spread the repayment period out, but we did not get a response to that request.
Several members have already reached out to say that the information sent to them was incorrect. PLEASE review your paystub and if you received this email incorrectly or have additional questions, send it to PayrollCS@nps.k12.nj.us. You should also CC mmaillaro@newarkteachersunion.
Good afternoon –
Please be advised that due to a Payroll error, you were overpaid for the Extended Day Program (EDP) on the pay check of September 30, 2022.
The EDP/ELT hours were doubled erroneously on the pay check of September 30, 2022.
The Office of Payroll will reconcile the data and will recoup the overpaid hours on the upcoming pay of October 14, 2022.
