NTU Update - April 21

Colleagues,

1)     Contract Update: The NTU Negotiations Committee met several days over vacation to work around some roadblocks to the contract's progress. For the entire week this week, internal meetings amongst committee members, and negotiations meetings with NPS were held. As of now, we can only firmly state that we have reached tentative agreements on the following:

1. We have reviewed and cleaned up language that was conflicting in the previous CBA.

2. We have a tentative agreement language and terms for the new CBA.

The last component we are negotiating is the actual salary guides.

Over this last component we have had numerous meetings, some successful, others not so successful. However, the good news is that we are still at the table hammering out terms.

2)     EWA’s – Reminder! The Election to Work Agreement at Renew/Turnaround schools are VOLUNTARY. If your administrator is trying to intimidate you into signing one, reach out to Mike Maillaro at the NTU immediately at mmaillaro@newarkteachersunion.com.

If you are a tenured teacher, and do not sign the Election to Work Agreement, you would either stay at your school working a normal school day or be transferred to another school.

3)     Hall of Fame Dinner/Member Recognition – Congratulations to this year’s NTU Member Recognition Award Recipients! The awards will be presented at the 2017 NTU Hall of Fame Dinner to be held on Wednesday, May 17th at The Robert Treat Hotel, 50 Park Place, Newark, NJ at 6:30 p.m.
