Colleagues,

1) NTU Hall of Fame Dinner – Huge Kudos to the NTU Staff and Ed Resource Committee!  This year, we were able to give out 15 scholarships totaling $21,750 to our members and Newark students at our annual Hall of Fame Dinner.  Our fund raising efforts raised over $56K for this terrific event.

Dear NTU Members:

On Friday, April 28th, those available, attended the NTU Elections nomination meeting.   I have been waiting for the certification letter from the NTU Elections Committee to share the results with you.  That notification is below. Only one slate was nominated and ran unopposed and by virtue of a nominal vote by a member in good standing, that slate was reelected to office.

1)     Contract Update: We have gotten a lot of questions about “When we will be receiving our retro checks?” We are working with NPS to get them out as soon as possible. Right now, we know that they will be two separate checks (one for 2015-2016 and one for 2016-2017 school year) and both checks will be out by July 15 at the latest.

Abeigon. “We always wish we could get better for teachers who have given so much to the children in so many ways and continue to advocate for the best possible learning

1. Longevity is tied to total years of service in Newark only and doesn't have to be consecutive.

2. It's not tied to steps

3. You would start getting your first longevity at the start of your 15th year.

4. If someone was about to get longevity, and the contract froze...they will get it in their retro

5. Longevity is added to salary every year...not divided over the years.

6.  Second longevity REPLACES first longevity when you reach your 20th year

7. Third and fourth longevity is ADDED TO second longevity.

At Hawkins Street School, Art Teacher Dawn Maglio's students were recognized in Newark's "Imagine a Day Without Water" poster contest. There were over 400 submissions. Our student Emily Matos won 1st place and another one of our students Victoria Villalba received honorable mention. Emily's artwork will be featured in the city's water report that will reach over 500,000 customers. This is an amazing accomplishment for her. She received a certificate, as well as the other honorable mentions at City Hall on April 27th.
