Superintendent’s Council of Leaders
A few years ago, Superintendent León created three Councils of Leaders, one each for high school students, parents and teachers. The Council of Student Leaders is comprised of the heads of the senior class student government associations. The Council of Parent Leaders is comprised of Parent Liaisons and the heads of the various schools’ parent associations. The Council of Teacher Leaders is comprised of representatives from the various elementary grade clusters (PK-2, 3-5, and 6-8) as well as representatives from each grade level in the district’s high schools. Additionally, each council has representatives who participate by special invitation. Superintendent León will continue to meet with these Councils monthly to provide the members with important information and to receive critical feedback from them to help inform his decisions.

Message from Dr. Reilly

Dear Teachers and Instructional Staff,

Good morning and welcome back. Marilyn Mitchell, Director of Special Education, sent me a link to an online article, “5 Metacognitive Questions For Students Learning New Material” published by Edutopia. I thought you would find it informative. I appreciate how succinct it is and how these five questions can help students confront and learn new material.

  1. What stands out to me? What makes me wonder?
  2. Which parts or terms are new to me, and which parts do I recognize?
  3. How does this connect with what I already know?
  4. What follow-up questions do I have?
  5. Why is this idea important?

In visits to schools the last few weeks, we have seen evidence of these questions in play as teachers guide students to think.  Having students jot/type these questions in a notebook so that they can, independent of you, pose these questions to themselves as they need, will be quite helpful.
