1)      Negotiations Update – Earlier this week, the NTU reached out to the Newark Public Schools of our intentions to formally begin negotiations.  Our contract negotiations committee is hard at work putting together all the proposals we received from the members in preparation for exchanging demands and proposals with the Newark Public schools.  We will continue to keep you as informed as possible without violating the confidentiality inherent in negotiations.

 2)      Community Schools – The NTU and AFT will be hosting a Community Schools Information session at Shabazz High School

From April 26 to April 30, the Friends of the Westfield Memorial Library will be offering any teacher with proof of employment "buy 1, get 1 free" on regularly priced books during its annual used book, dvd and cd sale. The book sale financially supports the Library and such expensive Friends’ activities as the Children's Programs and the Museum Guest Passes.  Regular prices are $2 for hard backs; $1.50 for trade paperbacks and $.50 for paperbacks. Attached is a letter the Ed Law Center sent to the Commissioner of Education and the School Development Authority in regards to the high level of lead in our water.  We continue to monitor the situation and will report out anything that comes out of this.

After serving as the prescription benefits provider for the Supplemental Fringe Benefits Fund (“SFB”)  for over 20 years, General Prescriptions Program, Inc. (“GPP”) has terminated its contract with the SFB.     As a result of GPP’s termination, BeneCard, Inc. will be installed in its place effective April 1, 2016.   Notwithstanding GPP’s termination,  we are continuing with our pending legal and grievance actions against the Newark Public Schools for their unilateral and improper selection of BeneCard, Inc.  and will keep you posted.  (We haven’t lost the case, the provider
