Yesterday, we received the following communication from one of our attorneys regarding several cases we had before NJ PERC (New Jersey's Public Employment Relations Commission):


John and Gene:

                Attached, please find PERC’s Initial Decision on our motion for summary judgment concerning the NTU’s Charge over:  (1) the denial and/or interference with NJEA Convention Leave; (2) Refusal to Provide the names of ineffective teachers; and (3) the blocking of John’s email.  I am pleased to inform you that the Hearing Examiner ruled in favor of the NTU on nearly all aspects of the charge.

Joe was quite & modest (except in his attire) and if you were his friend, you knew it; if you were his enemy he’d charm you then send me or Pete after you. He was a lifelong practitioner of keeping his enemies close.  But he too spoke up loudly against injustice and was often shunned for it; he spoke as a teacher and had the same ability to talk to them

1)          City Hall Candlelight Vigil - October 19, 2015 5 PM - Newark is calling on all outraged public school employees and their representatives, local and statewide supporters of public education to mount a candlelight vigil on the steps of Newark City Hall, 920 Broad Street, Monday, October 19th at 5 p.m. to bring light to the struggles of Newark’s PUBLIC schools as a result of CONTINUED Charter expansion.  As always, parking is available behind the Newark Teachers Union building.
