In order to ensure that members will have this year's NTU Calendar Book by the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, the NTU has already began working on the calendar. Under the direction of President John M. Abeigon, we will be making changes to our old format based on feedback we've gotten from the membership, including expanding the calendar to cover all the way to December 2017.
Please use the below survey to provide us with any additional suggestions you may have.
As we communicated yesterday, the NPS has announced their intention to change over from the State Health Benefits plan to a “NPS only plan” through AETNA for all Newark Public School Employees. The district claims that this change will allow them to save $9.8 million over the next 16 months while providing the same benefits we receive now.
While we acknowledge that choosing a provider is district prerogative, we also know this district is "data obsessed." We are putting together the following survey to get members' thoughts on this change.
Involuntary Transfer Survey (LAST CALL): It has been brought to our attention that many school staff have been moved from their schools and placed in Turnaround Schools because they decided not to sign Election to Work Agreements. We believe that these transfers could have violated our contract and state law. Our lawyers are gathering this information in order to assess if we have a case here. PLEASE ONLY FILL OUT THIS SURVEY IF YOU CHOSE NOT TO SIGN AN ELECTION TO WORK AGREEMENT AND WERE TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER TURNAROUND SCHOOL!
Class size and Supply Survey - In order to collect the many class size and supply violations we have been receiving already this year, we have created a survey on Google Docs.
