JUNE 23, 2025 EDITION

Message from the Superintendent

Dear Teachers and Instructional Staff,

I am so honored and proud to congratulate the following students, schools, teachers, departments, and staff for these accomplishments:

STEM Week
The Office of Science would like to recognize the over 2,800 middle school students across 26 schools who participated in our annual STEM Week activities. It was great to see how teachers and students made the topics of Building a Lunar Colony, Urban Farming, and Surgical Techniques come alive in their classrooms.

Teacher of the Year
On June 12th, the District celebrated each school's Teacher of the Year and announced our District Teacher of the Year: Mr. Mario Banks from Science Park High School.

True greatness in teaching is achieved by those who go the extra mile every single day. We are extremely proud of these educators' hard work and dedication as they exemplify instructional leadership and unwavering commitment to student success. Congratulations to each Teacher of the Year recipient. Thank you for being powerful examples of what is possible in education and for the positive impact you make in our students' lives every day.

Night at the Museum
The Office of Early Childhood (OEC) extends a heartfelt thank you to the over 1,000 students and families who joined us for the spectacular 13th Annual Night at the Museum event on Friday, June 13, 2025. This unforgettable evening was filled with wonder, joy, and hands-on learning as students dove into engaging, interactive activities led by passionate educators. Families were welcomed with gift bags and take-home resource booklets to continue the fun and learning beyond the event. From the inspiring planetarium show, high-energy Zumba and yoga sessions, to an epic life-sized Candy Land game adventure, the museum was alive with excitement at every turn. Thanks to the beautiful weather, the garden transformed into a lively carnival complete with games, popcorn, snow cones, and chances to win fantastic prizes. Two lucky attendees even walked away with raffle gift baskets! Our amazing community partners were also on hand, offering valuable resources and connecting with families throughout the night. It was a magical celebration of curiosity, connection, and community, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Newark Games
The Office of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics proudly congratulates the more than 2,500 students from Pre-K through 12th grade who participated in the inaugural Newark Games—a District-wide event that brought together 64 schools representing 16 countries in a powerful display of athleticism, teamwork, and cultural pride.
