Dear Colleagues,
Across the country, the working class has been under attack from a concentrated effort to strip away their legally-guaranteed protections. In New Jersey, educators have been a constant target of the Governor. Nowhere has this been more apparent than in Newark and the other state-controlled school districts.
Over the Winter Break, the Governor’s hand-picked Superintendent Christopher Cerf unleashed his latest attacks against educators. For CASA members, Superintendent Cerf has refused to negotiate a contract in good faith, and he announced that he was going to unilaterally change an important provision of the administrators’ contract. For NTU members, the Superintendent announced that he was going to unilaterally strip away negotiated prescription benefits.
These actions show contempt for New Jersey’s working families. Now is the time, more than ever, for all union members to come together. It is important to remember that these attacks are not just aimed at CASA and NTU. They are not just aimed at educators. ALL WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES ARE UNDER ATTACK! We must stand united against these violations of the law and contracts that our members fought long and hard to achieve.
It is vital that all workers come out to the upcoming Newark Advisory meetings:
Business Meeting | Advisory Board Meeting |
In Solidarity,
