We Are Not Okay!
When your friends and family ask, tell them "NO! WE ARE NOT OKAY!"
Our colleagues from HCAMS (HealthCare Assistance with Member Support) will be doing an afterschool workshop at the Newark Teachers Union on December 15, 2015. They will be explaining the services they offer and how union members can access them.
We have confirmed dates and location for our upcoming regional membership meetings:

* eliminates the adequate yearly progress requirement; * maintains certification for paraprofessionals; * revamps accountability to include other measures of student learning and school indicators, and allows for a pilot program for project based-assessments in lieu of standardized tests;
As the year is quickly coming to a close, and we take the next few days to reflect and give thanks to a higher power for our Blessings, let's take a minute over this break to reflect upon the source that provides us the protections we still enjoy.
Absolute power and lack of transparency are NOT perfect together. Charter school evaluations are not shared with the public, nor are their profit/loss statements.
NTU's grievance procedure is our major weapon to ensure that all aspects of our contract are enforced. In this endeavor, your first line of defense in effective contract enforcement is your NTU Building representative. Your NTU representative is charged with enforcing the contract, protecting the rights of their co-workers, and continuing the collective bargaining process between the union and management on a daily basis. The NTU building representative does not have to witness the event or actions that form the basis for the filing of the grievance.
