Janus v.
Twenty-two years of state takeover of the Newark Public Schools came to an end on February 1, 2018. Books have been written on the subject and no doubt more will be written in the future. Hundreds of newspaper articles and opinion pieces have been published regarding the infamous $100 million Facebook donation. Most of that donation went to settle labor contracts (two years in arears, mind you), but the balance was consumed by so-called education reform groups and consultants.
Colleagues,
On behalf of the NTU Executive Board & Staff I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
Dear Brothers & Sisters:
PLEASE READ AND REREAD THIS LENGTHY LETTER AND DISCUSS WITH PARAPROFESSIONALS AND PER DIEM AIDES
Subject: Child Abuse Allegations
Dear Newark Teacher’s Union Paraprofessional and Per Diem Aide:
Dear Brothers & Sisters:
The NTU/NPS negotiations teams met yesterday. The next meeting will be scheduled soon. The NTU Negotiations Team advises the membership to continue to “support the Respect the Contract Initiatives Phases I & II, write your legislators and prepare for January 19th Day of Action.” At today’s Bldg. Rep. Mtg. we will be providing details for the Day of Action.
Brothers & Sisters:
This may be the most important email we have ever sent you. Recently, we have had a lot of questions from members about getting union representation AFTER having a meeting with their administrator go in a bad direction.
REMEMBER! YOUR ADMINISTRATOR IS UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO REMIND YOU OF YOUR RIGHT TO HAVE UNION REPRESENTATION!
Dear Brothers & Sisters:
While our Negotiations Team is working hard to exhaust every possible way of securing us a fair and equitable contract, the NTU remains active in defending our Union and your rights on several other fronts. We must fight these fights, alone if necessary, for what good is a contract without benefits and rights.
Colleagues,
You have all heard the saying, when one door opens, another one closes. Well the NTU doesn’t accept that willingly. When one door opens and another one closes we stick our foot in the door jam and demand to know what’s going on in there.
