Colleagues,
1) Lafayette Street School - The NTU has followed through in suing the administrative staff at Lafayette School personally. NPS administrators can not be allowed to use Teach NJ and Achieve NJ as weapons to destroy the careers of hard-working decent professionals.
2) December Membership Meetings – We are working on scheduling regional membership meetings before the Winter Break. More information to come as soon as the dates and locations are finalized.
3) November Advisory Board Meeting– The November Advisory Board meeting has been moved to MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23 @ East Side High School.
MONDAY, November 23, 2015. 6:00 PM
East Side High School
238 Van Buren Street
Newark, NJ 07105
4) New NTU Emails – To reduce costs and improve efficiency, the NTU will be getting rid of our current server over the next few weeks. As a result, our @ntuaft.com emails will become inactive at some point in the near future. The new emails will be @newarkteachersunion.com. For example, mmaillaro@newarkteachersunion.com, jabeigon@newarkteachersunion.com, miovino@newarkteachersunion.com, etc.
5) Class Size Survey – NTU has met with NPS on the class size and overcrowding issues at many of our schools. If your class size is over the state limits, or if you are missing any supplies, please fill out the survey immediately so we can get these issues resolved.
6) Additional Superstorm Sandy Funds Available for NTU Members – In October 2015, the AFTNJ Executive Board approved additional support in the amount of $250.00 for any member who continues to suffer hardships due to Superstorm Sandy. These funds will be available to any full member of an AFTNJ affiliate or an AFTNJ retiree. Fair representation fee payers are not eligible to apply. Losses are considered per household, not by member; each household should submit one request.
To apply for this support, please provide a brief narrative of the hardship you experienced and/or are still experiencing as a result of the storm. If you were among those who received assistance from AFT/AFTNJ in the past please indicate so we can refer to your original application.
All narratives should be sent to:
Krista Sweeney, Assistant to the President, AFTNJ, 629 Amboy Ave., Suite 301, Edison, NJ 08837, fax to 732-661-1776.
In Solidarity,
