Hall of Fame Dinner

The NTU Education Foundation is proud to announce its 19th Annual Albert Shanker Scholarship Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at The Robert Treat Hotel, 50 Park Place, Newark, NJ at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for this special program are $70.00, which includes a buffet dinner and dessert, along with music and a special program for your enjoyment..

This year, the Newark Teachers Union is proud to induct Christine Veliz into the Newark Teachers Union Hall of Fame. Christine worked in Newark for over 30 years and served as a NTU Building Rep and Vice President. She

AFT-NJ generously contributed an ad and scholarship to this year's Hall of Fame Dinner.  

This ad was accidentally left out of this year's ad journal, but we still wanted the members to see it!

On Wednesday, May 19, 2016, the NTU held our 18th Annual Hall of Fame Dinner. It was our most successful Hall of Fame Dinner yet!   We had close to 300 attendees and raised $50,000 for scholarships for our members, their children, and the students of Newark!

For the first time, we also had the NTU Member Recognition Awards, where 14 members were recognized for their contributions to Newark's students, school staff, and community.

And we inducted Thomasina Lemon into the NTU Hall of Fame!

During this bleak period in American public education history where educators are beset on all sides by enemies and reminders of the War on Teachers, it is absolutely fitting that we take time to pat ourselves on the back. We do that this year by awarding our first Member Recognition Award.

Dear Colleague:

The 18^th Annual Albert Shanker Scholarship Awards are upon us.  If you are a full member of the NTU, your son/daughter is eligible to apply.  If you are a full member of the NTU and you are a Paraprofessional in our public school district who is currently attending college then you are eligible to apply.  An application is enclosed.

For the last two years, the Newark Teachers Union have also offered scholarships to Newark Public School Seniors (non-members) who were continuing on to higher education. If you know of a student in the Newark Public Schools who would be

2022 NTU Hall of Fame and Shanker Scholarship Awards

The NTU Education Foundation is proud to announce its 24^th Annual Albert Shanker Scholarship Awards.

In 2021, twenty-five students received academic scholarships, including seven Presidential Awards in the amount of $2,500.00, six Executive Awards in the amount of $1,750.00 and twelve in the amount of $1,000.00. 

Scholarships are available for paraprofessionals, Newark students, an the children of our member.  The Application is below.
