The Arbitrator's decision on our Grievances over the district's failure to implement certain provisions of the 2012 contract has finally arrived.   The 2012 contract was a controversial one, we know. Those who benefited loved it; those who didn’t hated it; some saw it as too progressive, others saw it as regressive. Ultimately, the membership voted for the contract, and it became our responsibility to monitor and enforce its implementation.

1) NTU Calendar Books – This is the question we get most at the NTU this time of year “Where is my Calendar book?” The 2017-2018 calendar book is currently at the printer and we hope to have it out to the membership in the next week or so.

2) NTU Contract Books – We are working with NPS on finalizing the new Contract Books. We hope to have a digital version on the website next week and the print copy available soon after.

1) State votes to restore Newark to Local Control! This week, we get to celebrate a historic moment 22 years in the making! The State Board of Education heard a motion to return Newark to local control, and this motion passed unanimously! We have all worked very hard to get this victory, and we all deserve to take a moment to celebrate.

That said, this doesn't mean the struggle is over! This transition will not happen over night. From here on out, it is a legislative process. We have already communicated with the Newark Board of Education our congratulations and our request to be

Today, we get to celebrate a historic moment!  The State Board of Education heard a motion to return Newark to local control, and this motion passed unanimously!  We have all worked very hard to get this victory, and we all deserve to take a moment to celebrate.  That is why we invite everyone to join at at Newark City Hall today to "CELEBRATE THE RETURN TO LOCAL CONTROL" with Mayor AFT President Randi Weingarten, the city Council, and Newark Chief Education Officer Antoinette Baskerville-Richardson on Wednesday, September 13, at 3:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, September 13th, at 3:30 pm sharp, in front of Newark City Hall, Mayor Baraka will hold a press conference, open to the public, celebrating the return of local control to the Newark Public Schools after 22 years of state control. AFT National President Randi Weingarten will be among the speakers. The Weequahic High School band will play at 3:15 pm. Please come out to this very special event.
