1)    EWA Update: Over the last few weeks, the NTU has been working closely with Interim District Superintendent Gregory about our concerns regarding Election to Work Agreements, both in terms of long term changes and how EWA’s were handled this year.  During our monthly NTU/NPS Consultative Meeting this week, we presented the results of our survey and had a lengthy conversation with the Interim Superintendent.

While there still is a lot of work to be done, NPS reached out to us yesterday with the following updates:

• We will be working closely with the district on evaluating the EWA

Your Union in Action: what was going on at NTU this week?

1. NTU Building Policies – In order to protect the safety of our members and the NTU staff, the NTU will be making some changes to our Building policies.

• Anyone entering the NTU Building must sign it at the front desk and show a picture ID.
• Only members of the NTU Bargaining Unit (Full Member and Agency Shop) will be allowed onto the 2^nd, 3^rd, or 4^th floor without prior permission.
• When possible, NTU Members should call in advance and make an appointment.

On Saturday, March 24, at Military Park at 10 am, the City of Newark will be holding a March for Our Lives Rally. This is in conjunction with the national March for Our Lives event in Washington D.C. and with sister events across the state and country.

March for Our Lives NJ is a student-centered, student-lead event. It is being planned by a committee of students from diverse backgrounds who are coming together from schools across northern, central, and southern New Jersey. Every day students are telling teachers, “I’m going to get you fired” and then that student will tell an administrator or parent a boldface lie that you touched them inappropriately by hitting or kicking them or made sexual contact. Remember, the rule is hands off unless you have to intercede to separate students about to harm one another and if you have to do so, be cautious not to touch head or neck areas.
