We maintain www.forgivemystudentdebt.org as a resource for members who need to learn the language of free and underused federal programs that help many student loan borrowers lower their monthly payments, and in some cases, even have their debt forgiven.

Yesterday, it was announced that there would be dramatic increases to school employee contributions for school staff covered under the School Employee Health Benefits Plan.  Impacted employees will see their contributions go up by 13%, the largest increase in 5 years.

It is important to remember that last year, the NPS moved our benefits out of the School Employee Health Benefits Plan for a local AETNA plan.  In addition, our negotiations team managed to negotiate a decrease in premium costs for NTU members.  This sets us

1) Retro PaymentFor those eligible, your first of two retro payments was posted today. If there is a problem with your retro or you have any questions, YOUR FIRST CALL/EMAIL needs to be to your employer the NPS. There are a variety of things that could have an impact on the amount, including longevity, withholding of increments, unpaid leaves, increment start date (either Feb or Sept), etc. The NTU has no way of tracking down each member’s individual reason why their retro may not be what they expected.
